To ensure the quality of firefighting products and safeguard the baseline of fire safety, SAMR (SAC) has revised and upgraded a batch of mandatory national standards on important firefighting products including fire extinguisher, fire shutter assembly, firestop material, fire indication system, and fire alarm detector.

The revised two national standards, GB 4351-2023, Portable fire extinguishers, and GB 8109-2023, Wheeled fire extinguishers, add the quality requirements for the valve, insurance system, spray pipe and other parts of fire extinguishers, and improve the reliability of the products. They also increase the execution requirements for two types of fire including metal fire and cook fire, which make related products applicable for more complex fire scenarios, and improve the efficiency of firefighting when a fire takes initial shape.

The three national standards on fire shutter assembly and its motor and controller perfect the materials, main parts and components, assembly quality and operation performance, and raise the mechanical stability, electrical safety and climate tolerance of products.

GB 23864-2023, Firestop material, mainly improves the parameters closely related to the safety and service life of products, and adds the requirements for the smoke toxic effect and air tightness of products used in main public facilities, further improving the performance of products.

GB 17945-2024, Fire emergency lighting and evacuate indicating system, improves the structure, function and performance of products, and promotes the reliability and applicability of the system. It also stipulates the type, performance and material of storage batteries used in the system.

GB 4717-2024, Fire alarm control units, further harmonizes the operation modes, regulates the communication protocol, and raises the overall performance. It also strengthens the functions of control and data analysis, unifies the time benchmark, and improves the response speed.

GB 4715-2024, Point-type smoke detectors using scattered light, transmitted light or ionization, refines the classification of products, and optimizes the technical performances and indicators of products. It will improve the reliability and anti-interference performance, promote the more accuracy of fire detection, and effectively reduce the false alarm rate and missing report rate.

The revision of these mandatory national standards will further improve the technical level and performance of firefighting products in China, facilitate the renewal of related products and equipment, and safeguard the security of people’s lives and property.
